Stock coverage keeps WPC80 demand muted

WPC80 prices softened again in Week 40. Buyers still hold enough stock to wait before covering their remaining volumes, which is keeping demand muted. Both WPC80 Regular and WPC80 Instant have a Softer assessment. WPI90 and SWP are Stable, while MPC85 is Firm, so the weekly direction differs across the products covered.

For buyers, the practical consideration is how inventory and contracted coverage align with production needs. As a general procurement principle, available stock can create time to compare offers, but the purchasing window still depends on delivery deadlines, lead times and the availability of approved origins. Waiting for a more attractive purchasing level also needs to be weighed against the operational impact of a shortage. Reviewing these factors helps buyers establish how much time they have before their remaining requirements need to be secured.

The gap between European origins remains

The gap between Western and Eastern European product remains in place. Premium brands are moving more slowly with the index. Buyers therefore still face differences between origins while assessing the softer WPC80 market.

As a general purchasing consideration, the relevant comparison is between actual offers for the required specification and origin. Alongside price, buyers can assess existing approval, application performance, batch consistency and delivery reliability. A change of origin may require document review, sampling, application testing and customer approval before the material can be used. The time and work involved in qualification belong in the commercial comparison alongside delivered cost, particularly when a purchasing decision needs to support a fixed production timetable.

Prompt demand for grass fed and organic WPC80

One area of specific demand is grass-fed and organic WPC80, where buyers are looking for prompt availability. This requirement sits alongside the more muted demand described for WPC80 more broadly.

For buyers with these requirements, a general procurement consideration is whether the available material meets both the product specification and the delivery timetable. Origin approval, relevant certifications, documentation and application suitability should be checked alongside the proposed delivery date. Product that is available quickly may still need approval before it can be used. Establishing the required volumes and timing helps buyers assess whether a potential offer can support the planned production run.

The MPC85 purchasing incentive remains an open question

Demand for MPC85 continues and its market assessment is Firm. At the same time, the price spread between MPC85 and WPC80 keeps narrowing. This leaves the question raised in the market update: how much longer will the incentive remain to buy MPC85 instead of WPC80?

For buyers, the general procurement consideration is how the price difference relates to the requirements of the finished formulation. Protein ingredients cannot be assessed on protein percentage and price alone. Changes in a blend can affect taste, solubility, texture, nutritional values, labelling and processing performance. Any substitution therefore needs technical assessment and application testing. The commercial comparison should include that work alongside the potential ingredient saving; the narrowing spread does not by itself determine which option is suitable for an individual application.
